PISA AND THE LEANING TOWER

Birthplace of one of modernity's greatest scientists, Galileo Galilei, the coastal city of Pisa is found in the centre of a fertile plain in north western Tuscany, a strategic geographic position that allowed it to become the stronger Naval Republic during the Middle Ages.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is without a doubt the monument that represents not only the city of Pisa in the world, but one of the symbol of Italy all around. Did you know that it's just the cathedral's bell tower? The Cathedral and its Tower, the Baptistery and the Camposanto are all found in the Square of Miracles, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy and the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It will be my pleasure to let you discover why, in a minor city as Pisa, we have one of the finest square of the world.
We'll admire all the monuments in the Square, then we'll get inside the wonderful Cathedral (once upon a time the largest one in the world) an the huge Baptistery, still the largest one all around the world.
Then you'll have the opportunity to climb the Leaning Tower. The tourist has to go to the proper left-luggage office to hand in bags/luggage before starting the visit.

ETRUSCAN CITY OF ALABASTER AND TWILIGHT’S VAMPIRES

The "magic and mysterious" city of Volterra has its roots in three thousand years of history. It is possible to find evidence and traces from every historical period which gives the artistic city a unique aspect.

Volterra still retains its medieval character, charm and atmosphere. Its isolated position has impeded any progressive development. The defensive wall built in the 13th century was the result of an urban development that began in the year thousand and was completed at the beginning of the 14th century.

Today the city conserves above all a Medieval aspect not only for the 13th century city walls but also because of the urban layout with narrow streets, palaces, tower houses and churches. The Renaissance had an important influence on Volterra but without changing the city’s Medieval character.

Guided visit to the close Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance town of Volterra: from the Porta all’Arco, to the Cathedral and Baptistery, to the Palazzo dei Priori and the Roman Theatre, including a laboratory where is working one of few handicraftsmen in town making alabaster object.

And today Volterra became more and more famous thanks to the second book of the Twilight’s saga. In Stephenie Meyer’s bestsellingNew Moon, Volterra is the town where the powerful Volturi vampire coven resides.
